Gargoyle Heero

Hahahahahahahaha! Another one! It's terribly unimaginative, but I don't care. These sorts of pictures are fun to do!

Heero's design was a bit of a challenge for awhile. I gave him feathered wings like Quatre's, because of the whole Wing Zero design thing, and they just seem to fit. But they couldn't be white like Wing Zero's, because Q's wings were white, and I wanted to the design to be different, but wasn't sure how to go about it, or which colors to choose....and I'm babbling now.... Too much sugar in my breakfast cereal, I suppose.

Anyway, I hope the color scheme works. I based the wings on those of raptors, which seemed appropriate for Heero, but had to keep it simple, so it's just two extra bands above the primary feathers, and a few little brown feather-tips above. They'd be a pain to animate, I know. His loincloth is relatively simple. I actually tried to get some color in there, but it always looked weird, so plain black is the end result of some unnecessary fights with the color palette. Besides, Heero has always seemed to be a no muss, no fuss sort of character, so keeping it just at a loincloth seemed best.

Now onto the background. That whole process was....interesting... What I ended up with was fairly accidental. I kind of like how it turned out, though it's probably much too busy. The feathers are a common motif for our favorite Perfect Soldier, but the gears also represent his mechanical training, and the fact that he was raised and trained to be a thing, a machine of sorts, rather than a human (gargoyle) . The blue is there because his eyes are blue. (Yes, I know that the gargoyles in the Disney cartoon all have dark irises, but I consciously chose to give the GW boys their canon eye color because it's an integral part of their visual identity. )
